Atlas of Open Science Resources 2.0

AZON 2.0 (Atlas of Open Science Resources 2.0) is a project that aims to make important scientific and economic materials – publications, recordings, videos, lectures, language courses, etc. – open and available. An important aim of the project is that it will be open to the needs of people with disabilities and that resources will be made available to them in a way that enables them to read them. More than 65,000 resources are to be made available by the end of 2022. The project’s leader is the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and other participants include Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, the Wrocław Medical University and the Institute for Systems Research in Wrocław.

The project is funded by the European Union under the Digital Poland Operational Programme.

Skillful bionic hand prosthesis

A team of experts from Wrocław University of Science and Technology is in the process of developing the design of a skillful bionic hand prosthesis (BEEPP). Bionic, i.e. controlled by bio signals, using the technique of recognizing the patterns contained in these signals, which represent the user’s intention to control the movement of the prosthesis; Economical, i.e. competitively priced in relation to prostheses of a similar class available on the market; Ergonomic – the shape and way of performing grasping and manipulating movements imitating the perfection of the prototype, which is a natural hand, but also lightweight and, above all, coherent with the prosthetic limb (characterized by stability of the prosthesis – stump connection); Polish – designed and, in the future, produced entirely in Poland.

Studies carried out in upper limb amputees clearly show the highly positive effect of prosthetics on improving the quality of life and significantly reducing psychological problems in these people, and the improvement is greater the more advanced the prosthesis is – in terms of functional capabilities and convenience of use This observation, backed up by scientific research, signifies precisely the social benefits of multifunctional bionic hand prostheses, of which the BEEPP prosthesis resulting from the project is the one.

University of Science and Technology of New Opportunities

Improving the accessibility of universities for people with disabilities is one of the challenges facing modern education. Wrocław University of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Association for Equal Access to Education “Twoje Nowe Możliwości”, is implementing a project to improve the accessibility in higher education. The aim of the project is: to improve the accessibility of Wrocław University of Science and Technology as a higher education institution for people with disabilities by increasing the competences of those participating in higher education, corresponding to the needs of the economy, labour market and society, and to support organizational changes and increase the competences of staff in the higher education system.

The project is co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.

Trails+

TRAILS and its continuation TRAILS+ (Traveling Innovation Labs and Services) is a workshop in mobile innovation labs and services that aims to increase development and innovation in the Poland-Saxony cross-border region. The project aims to address the problem of economic regression in the cross-border region by developing a new learning formula tested and developed during the workshops on techniques for generating creative solutions in innovative ventures.

The project partners are Technische Universität Dresden (leader), the Department of Economy of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodship and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The TRAILS + project is co-financed by the European Union with funds from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the INTERREG Cooperation Programme Poland – Saxony 2014 – 2020.

Innovative Design Manual [pdf]

As part of the TRAILS+ project, a new, extended teacher’s handbook – the “PLAYBOOK” – has been produced. It is an outcome and legacy for schools and innovators in the region to further develop innovative solutions and ideas after the award-winning TRAILS+ project.
